Online Activities - Authentic Uses of Technology in the Classroom
The article Overview of Technology and Education Reform published by Learning Point Associates gives examples of traditional and authentic uses of technology in the classroom.
During this week, please read the article and the examples or experiences in the classroom. Find possible applications of the examples for your grade or any grade in Del Mar Pines and blog about it.
After the vacations, please read and comment on your colleagues' postings.
Felices vacaciones!
PS: There is a tutorial in how to post here :)

Where the H**l is Matt? (2008)
This is one of my favorite videos, but the title bums me out because it has a "bad" word in it! Watch it- it'll make you want to dance! Kids love it!

6 word memoir
Jill and I attended a great technology workshop on Saturday called Poetry, Music, and Movies. Here is one of the ideas we are going to implement in our classrooms. Together we created a Power Point presentations that we will use to teach this great lesson to our students. It incorporates writing and technology. It is a writing activity that can foster a feeling of community in a school. Feel Free to use this in your classroom!

6 word memoir
Last Saturday, Erica and I went to a workshop called Poetry, Music, and Movies. we learned about a nation-wide writing project called "6-Word Memoirs." Eager to implement what we have learning in tech training as well as what we learned about literacy at the technology training, Erica and I created Power Point presentations that we will be using to introduce 6-word memoirs. We thought it might be fun for all students and staff at Del Mar Pines to participate in this project to create a sense of community. Feel free to use this in your classrooms!

There is soooo much out there!
This week I was able to use pre-made presentations to enrich the kindergarten curriculum. I found a great site for science by the University of Illinois on insects and a powerpoint jeopardy game to reinforce shapes in math! The kids LOVED interacting with the internet thanks to my new laptop!
I am enjoying learning more. I have not played with Powerpoint much, so I am excited to see what I can do.

PowerPoint - Week 5
Hola Amigas!!
This week (and the following three weeks) we will concentrate in PowerPoint. There is a lot to learn and we will have time to cover every one of the goodies of this software. What you learned in the previous classes with Word (project gallery, templates, insert picture, tables, etc) apply to all the Microsoft Office software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Entourage/Outlook)
It is important to understand that in every technology class you need to have a project to work on. I decided to give you a TalkingBook or DigitalStorytelling because I saw interest in many of you and because once you learn how to do this... you are ready for any kind of presentation you want to do. We will talk A LOT about slide show presentations and the uses of them :)
Do not desperate! Hang in there! There is a lot to learn and the good thing is... nobody is rushing us :)
You cannot download documents in a blog, but I will be more than happy to get them in a server if you want to share your book when is done. In the meantime, keep working and playing. I will be at DMP Thursday morning and after school. I will be attending the Epson training tomorrow, so there will not be formal classes this week.
Please, post comments, frustrations :( and anything you want as a comment here. That will be your assignment this week.
More tutorials here and more to come...

Instructions for Talking Book in PowerPoint
Talking PowerPoint Book- An Assistive Technology Application
This lesson is part of a class I took at Alliant University. I would like to give full credit to my teacher, Heidi Pelak. Gracias Heidi!
Read about Talking Power Point Books:
A TPPB is a PowerPoint presentation, with audio recordings, thus making it a Talking PowerPoint. This assignment is spread over two units, in that one must choose a topic, plan a story line, and then create the TPPB. Use the following to get started!
Directions:
- Download and print the Tutorial book from the website, http://atto.buffalo.edu/registered/Tutorials/talkingBooks/powerpoint.php
- Use this tutorial book as a guide to ensure that your current computer system has the required software to complete the assignment. Typically the main item students do not have is a microphone to accomplish the audio recordings. If you do not have a microphone, you will need to purchase one immediately. They are relatively inexpensive, typically around $12.00 at a Best Buy or Fry’s Electronics store. NOTE: In Mac the microphone and the camera are incorporated.
- Create a template for your PowerPoint book. Your TPPB should be at least eight to ten slides in length. You can use any topic to guide your book. For example, I have had students complete a TPPB on using topics such as “conservation” to “how to apply makeup”. The purpose of this assignment is for you to create a TPPB that you can hopefully use in your classroom or current employment.
- Once you have your story line (topic organized) and TPPB template you are ready to add your audio, graphics, and media. The audio is explained in the tutorial guide. You are required to use graphics at the minimum to visually guide your story. You can use media, but it is not required.

New week
Our two first weeks went fast!. I hope that with the new added day and this blog, soon everybody can start utilizing technology in their classrooms. The three new projectors are a good new resource and I can't wait to start using them (I get to use the three of them... lucky me!)
I posted a collection of interesting websites in a tab on the left side of this blog. Whenever you can, just visit them and post new blogs or comments when you find one you can see using in the classroom.
Remember, I know that you know how to use a computer... now, let's make our students learn the way they better learn today.
Thank you,
